Out of Kamloops we drove,
closely following Breck and Naomi
east towards Revelstoke.
The roads were dry with nothing to hold us back, with
the music up loud to disguise any sounds McGregor made.
Around us the landscape
started to change, large hills with barely any trees started to grow taller,
sharper and become hairier with cedar trees. After following a number of lakes
edges we navigated our way to have a good coffee in Revelstoke. We met some
new friends who we may catch up with this month, then back on the road we
continued east to Golden.
The Rogers pass was magnificent, at the top of course
it started to snow, I got out to take photos totally underdressed for the cold.
We got to Golden and enjoyed an amazing weekend for Easter
with Naomi’s sister and her husband.
We went walking but did not see a bear, nor did I want to,
as I was talking to much and to loud for us to stumble into a half awake bear.
Something I never thought about till the last few weeks is the amount of change a forest fire has to the landscapes here. Black sticks still stand in many places and regrowth is slow as there has been no replanting. It can take over 10 years to see the small green trees on slopes which lay bare and lifeless for years. I have a major appreciation for green trees already. The snow definitely highlights the gaps and the growth around you when hiking.
Snow, its a marvellous thing, I really enjoy that it has not melted quickly.

It is pretty but still its not always your best friend, but then I seem to easily slip on
the mud beside it while I try avoid slipping on the icy snow...
Currently we are wwoofing at Beaverfoot Lodge (wont tell ya
the story behind the name today) as it prepares to reopen after winter. Very
interesting and friendly bunch here, a number of other wwoofers here which is great!
Some of the older codgers who work here are a special bunch that seems to have
a sort of ‘cabin fever’ which is hard to explain without sounding like they are
all loosing marbles.. in a way I like it but in other ways I don’t.
There are extraordinary views here as we are right beside the
Yoho Nat park, up a long road, which is currently covered in ice and I am so
happy to have Levi who is actually quite handy driving in icy snow roads and
McGregor really pulled through.
We still have half a meter of snow in some places and it
starts melting about lunchtime when it gets up to about 8-12 degrees but in the
mornings it gets down well below zero and everything is frozen again and you
slip on your arse trying to walk to your morning chores.
The secret to life, according to a Serbian stranger who turned up at
Beaverfoot Lodge one night, You may not know what you are doing in life, but as
long as you are looking for something go with your guts for life!
(Ok enjoy a few snaps)
Look at those stars!!! What a wonderful experience for you both. Love you both enormously and glad to see this today.
